What Is Vegetative Growth

The novice pot grower may not know all of the terms used for growing their crop, but one term that should be known and understood is the vegetative state, or the non vegetative state.

During the vegetative state the is when the plant will be doing their growing so they will mature and this means not only in height, but also in width. The plants need the proper light during this time along with the proper nutrition if they are going to grow to the full ability of the strain of seed that is used.

Since the lighting is so important during this time experienced pot growers know this can be manipulated to make the pot grow faster or slower depending on the strength of the bulbs and the amount of hours the lights are left on.

There is also the time during flowering when the plants should not be in a vegetative state, if too much light disturbs the plants. Rather than flower they will remain in a vegetative state and this is not what the pot grower wants.

This is a great advantage to the person that has experience growing pot; they can have a continuous harvest if the lighting is done properly during the vegetative and non-vegetative growing stages of the plants.

It makes no difference in the growing method, indoors with soil or hydroponics the vegetative stages occur and need to have the right amounts of light in order to provide a good harvest.
