Testing The Soil pH Level
When planting a weed crop it is not good enough to just use good soil, it also needs to have the right pH level for the plants to be healthy. The best possible pH level for the soil when testing is the range between 6 ½ and 7, the scale for testing measures the acid to alkaline balance of the soil. The highest point of acidity is a 7 and the highest number of alkaline is 14.
To test the pH level of the soil there are different kinds of testing kits sold, there is one that has litmus paper for testing or there is also an electronic pH level tester. Included with these kits will be directions that will need to be followed in order to get an accurate reading. These directions will also explain what will need to be added to the soil to get the proper acidity level for the proper nutrition of the plants.
Testing needs to be done often if the weed crop is going to grow to maturity and produce as large of a crop as it is able to depending on the seeds planted. When the level is not correct it will create low acid salts that will make it impossible for the roots to obtain any nutrition and if not corrected it can cause the leaves to fall from the plant and the stalk to rot. |
