The Right Soil For The Pot Crop
The soil when planting indoors needs to be the right type of soil if it is going to be a potent crop with a good yield at harvest. This means it needs to be a potting soil that is sterilized and should have pearlite added to it to help the soil drain well. By using sterilized soil it protects the seedlings and pot plants from disease or any type of bugs that could damage or kill them. The use of outdoor soil should be avoided as it can contain disease or bugs that can destroy the crop.
In addition to potting soil if it does not have pearlite added to it then that will also needed to be mixed into the soil. Fine sand can also be mixed in the soil, this will help it to retain moisture in the soil without leaving the soil wet and it helps to give the roots something to grab onto as the plants grow.
Fertilizer or plant food will also need to be added to the soil and should be added when the soil is mixed at least 24 hours prior to planting. This is to give the seedlings or plants the nutrition they will need to grow.
The proper soil is important, without it the plants will not grow to their full ability or be as good of a harvest. Using the proper soil will also help to retain the right amount of water for the plants as they grow without being to dry or too wet. |
